An incredible novel of a brilliant woman, LADY CLEMENTINE is Marie Benedict’s much-anticipated new novel, following her New York Times and USA Today bestselling books: The Only Woman in the Room, The Other Einstein, and Carnegie’s Maid.
Clementine Churchill is known as the wife of the famed British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, but her greatest legacy should be her unsung influence that helped shape two World Wars and her lasting impact on women in politics today.
In fact, Winston’s Chief of Staff, General Pug Ismay, concluded that without Clementine the “history of Winston Churchill and of the world would have been a very different story.” In so doing, she also helped
make advancements in the women’s suffrage movement, laying the groundwork for women in key leadership and military roles that they hold today. And she did all this by transforming herself from a shy, timorous, impoverished aristocrat without formal training to a bold woman of power, who had no example for the work she undertook.
LADY CLEMENTINE is the ferocious story of the ambitious woman beside Winston Churchill, the
story of a partner who did not flinch through the sweeping darkness of war, and who would not
surrender either to expectations or to enemies.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Once a New York City lawyer, MARIE BENEDICT has made a career as a writer of novels inspired by women whose achievements have been overlooked or underappreciated by history and are highly relevant and critical to modern life. While drafting her first book, Marie found that she could excavate the possible truths lurking in history through fiction, and has done so in The Other Einstein, the story of Mileva Maric, Albert Einstein's first wife and a physicist herself; Carnegie’s Maid, the story of a brilliant woman who may have spurred Andrew Carnegie toward philanthropy; and The Only Woman in the Room, the instant New York Times bestselling story about Hedy Lamarr. Her mission as a writer is to offer a fresh prism with which we can examine our past, present, and future, and give voice to historical women’s critical achievements and
(still relevant) contributions. Marie is a graduate of Boston College and the Boston University School of Law, and lives in Pittsburgh with her family.
