THE STORY BEHIND 'CRIMSON TIKES' In the summer of 2013, Anthony Sisco and his wife spent four days in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and bopped around the campus. Anthony's head and heart were spinning with excitement, nostalgia and a long-delayed giddiness. As a 49-year-old father of two, knee-deep in various careers, raising children and enjoying a spunky marriage, this was the cherry on top!
Anthony was enrolled in an orientation class that allowed him to fulfill a lifelong dream of finishing his degree at the University of Alabama. It had taken him a long time to get there. Finally, here he was, sitting in T-Town, finishing his degree in Writing and Literature.
So one morning, as he jogged around the Capstone, he came across the campus newspaper, The Crimson White. Picking up a copy, he was struck with how well done it was and noticed that they had an opinion page showcasing a political cartoon.
Anthony had dabbled in cartooning and even published a couple of books, so right there, his eyes were opened. He had just about given up on his eligibility to play football, but this he could still do!
Upon returning home, he whipped out his first cartoon and sent it to them -- and they accepted it. So followed dozens and dozens of accepted cartoons, most dealing with Alabama football in a fun way, but some just dealing with life and politics.
For this project, Anthony compiled many other cartoons to share with his rabid Alabama brothers and sisters. Sprinkled with spiritual insights and philosophical musings, the Crimson Tikes provides an ongoing chronicle of the zest and excitement only found in the Alabama faithful. In short, there's fun for the whole, fanatical Alabama-loving family!
