History

We started the Page & Palette Foundation in 2003 as a business to fund-raise for various educational causes. When we added healthy living to our mission we changed the name to The Good Life Foundation to encompass Fit Minds & Fit Bodies. Our mission is to promote the unity of our community and its public schools by encouraging, supporting and recognizing excellence in innovative education, quality school programs, civic involvement, cultural development and student achievement. To help us achieve this mission, we started our signature event annual event Dancin’ in the Streets ten years ago which to date has raised nearly $300k for area schools for enrichment programs. This fun event has now been taken over by the Fairhope Sunset Rotary.

The foundation is currently broadening its scope to include not only literature and arts, but healthy living as well. To encompass the themes of fit minds, fit bodies, community members selected our foundation’s new name - The Good Life Foundation. We will fund raise through various events that highlight healthy living, including our Jubilee Kids Triathlon, author events and other sports related races.

Hook 'Em & Keep 'Em

We have always been a community hub and because we do so many events for non-profits we started our Good Life Foundation over ten years ago promoting fit minds and fit bodies. We have donated through all of our fundraising over $300k to area schools and other worthy organizations.  Much of the money was used for enrichment program, libraries and a reading initiative, Hook ‘Em and Keep ‘Em which is aimed at getting kids really hooked on reading by the time they reach 5th grade and keep them as avid readers by 9th grade. Each year, we bring in notable authors to target these reading levels and give away approximately 1,200 books. We drop these books off over several weeks to make sure they have them in time to read it before the author comes. Presently this project covers 7 schools with a goal of reaching the whole county.

The book choices are paramount because for many kids, the only books they have ever read are the ones required by their school.  And because these selections are considered homework, often they are not geared for entertainment which means that so many kids will never read that one book that turns them into lifelong readers.

This non-competitive event is suited for all skill levels with four routes to choose from: 8 mile, 20 mile, 40 mile and a metric century 82 mile course suited for all skill levels.  The most popular course is the 40 mile route from our store to The Hangout in Gulf Shores. The Good Life Ride & Hangout is held the Saturday before Mother’s Day.

Good Life Fitness Trail

~ One Day! ~

We would love to build an amazing fitness trail in Fairhope. It will have to take community funding and city’s approval, but we feel a fitness trail in our community would add to the quality of life and our overall health.  Although a final plan is not in place, the trail linked below would have different outdoor equipment positioned on a 5k Running Trail from the Duck Pond by the municipal pier to the Recreation Center.

See our draft for the fitness trail here.
